The first April wedding of 2012- wow wow wow!
I always feel slightly nervous at the start of a busy season: its a bit like going back to school at the start of each year- I’ll double check and triple check I’ve packed everything in my bag in the most efficient arrangement, look prim & proper, charged everything up and have plenty of back ups.. then back ups of my back ups!!! We’ve all been there right?!
I’m almost superstitious that if all starts well then I will carry on with that good luck till the end of wedding season- and oh how I hope the rest of this years Asian weddings go as smoothly or as fun as the time spent with Kiren and her family!
We had the traditional Maya ceremony at home in Washington followed by prewedding celebrations and Jago at the Nissan centre- these guys know how to dance and it was lovely to see Kiren enjoying herself with all her sisters together!!!
Waking up on the wedding day I nervously switched on my laptop to check the latest update from BBC weather- which had fluctuated from rain to sun to hailstones in its predictions for the day but luckily it was a normal/ verging on sunny day!!! That was the great start I was looking for!
Arriving at her house I went upstairs to see Kiren sat with her makeup artist and looking simply amazing even before putting on her wonderfully colourful lengha!!!
Kiren and Jagdeep had their religious Sikh wedding ceremony at the Newcastle Gurdwara followed by the wedding reception held at the Newcastle Marriott in Gosforth. Though slightly delayed it was such a beautiful & emotionally charged ceremony once things started and I will remember it for a long time.
Once we arrived at the reception party held in the Marriott in Gosforth I quickly took some couples portraits before and after the change of outfits- simply said this is one of my favourite set of images!
The party ensued in full fashion thanks to some fantastic DJ-ing by Leeds based UDN Music- who also arranged the star cloth and mood lighting around the venue which really set the ambience to make it almost ‘magical’- just like Kiren’s HUUUUGE Disney inspired cake!!!
It was a pleasure to be asked to photograph Kiren and Jagdeep’s wedding as they are both two great people and have the best banter ever!!
